Sports Day at Anuban Saraburi!

Hello Everyone!
I know it's been so long since I blogged! So, I will be trying to send out a few blogs to catch up in the next couple days! My family came to visit, I took 9 days off, and now I am swamped with giving 8 midterms to 35 students, so I apologize for my blogging absence. :)

I wanted to write a blog about the amazing spectacle that is Sports Day in Thailand! When I was told "Teacha, we have sports day in 2 weeks. Students miss many class and we have no teaching all day on sports day," I was confused, but I happily obliged. Many times our morning assembly (which is all in Thai, aka I can't understand it) the  entire 3,000 student body would start running to 4 corners of our giant school field. I quickly realized the entire school is split into 4 colors in kindergarten; red, yellow, green and blue. Those color teams stick together throughout their entire Anuban Saraburi school time and these are also the teams they compete in!

Fast forward to three weeks of non stop practices and I had NO idea what awaited me when Sports Day finally arrived!

Yellow Team! (My team)

Red Team

Green Team (Featuring one of my students)

Blue Team

The day started with a parade of all of the athletes and beautifully dressed representatives from each team!

These are some of my students, all on red team besides Gain who wore traditional Thai clothing for the parade. Doesn't she look beautiful?? (and 25, not 12!!)

Next, the little kindergarten students performed traditional Thai dancing.

After their adorable dancing finished, the real sports day began! Students played sports in the 95 degree (plus 85% humidity) heat ALL day! They competed so hard and were very proud of the medals they won. The most intense sport I saw was Tug of war, with 30 students on each side!

There is your little taste of a Thai sports day!
:)
